Robin Sharma is a legendary leadership and elite performance expert and mentored a lot of clients including famed billionaires and professional sports stars. He authored a book called 5 AM Club which is all about elevating our life by owning the morning. It was such an inspirational book that could change your life and in fact, changed my whole morning routine. In this book, he introduced a method call 20/20/20 rule which leads to productivity and world-class in some sense.

To practice, this formula you have to get up at 5 a.m because the formula is all about the hour between 5.00 am-6.00 am. He calls this hour the “Victory Hour”. This victory hour is divided into three 20 minutes parts and that’s why it’s called 20/20/20 rule(formula).

  1. 5.00-5.20 am-Exercise
  2. 5.20-5.40 am-Review your goals
  3. 5.40-6.00 am-Learn

5.00-5.20 am-Exercise

nerve-cell

First thing you should do when you wake up at 5.00 am is intense exercise. It doesn’t matter what exercise you take as long as it makes you sweat hard. It could be running, skipping, swimming or whatever suits you. There’s a reason behind this intense workout based on neurobiology. According to neurochemistry exercise releases,

Dopamine-Motivational neurotransmitter

Serotonin– Chemical that makes you happy

BDNF- brain-derived neurotrophic factor-Repair brain cells damaged by stress and accelerates the formation of neural connections which makes you think better and process faster.

While you exercise you boost your metabolic rates which makes you stronger. Exercise also reduces cortisol(hormone of fear) level which makes you implicit opportunities.

So there are a lot of advantages to exercising early in the morning. Not to mention you are gaining all these benefits while others are dreaming in their bed.

5.20-5.40 am- Review Your Goals

In the second 20 minutes of the 20/20/20 rule, you review your goals, plans, daily schedule or even your life purpose. It inspires you and gives you focus. In other words, you interact with things that relevant to your goal. Once you make a habit of reviewing your goals daily you’ll be surprised how much time you save in the day by sticking to your life purpose.

5.40-6.00 am- Learn

By the time you get into the 3rd and final 20 minutes of the rule, you have focus and awareness to achieve your purpose. So, Invest the last 20 minutes learning what best for you. Read books, listen to podcasts, learn lessons from high achievers. Make your self better than yesterday.

Goals

As a practitioner of this method, I can guarantee you the unbelievable outcome of this awesome philosophy. Try this method for at least 21 days(although it takes 66 days to install a habit where it becomes normal and natural) and you will see the results your self.

This article is a summary of the 20/20/20 rule which describes the basics of the formula. It has enough information for you to jump-start your routine. But if you are more interested I recommend you to read the 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma.
